beeping sound

I just bought a 2005 f150 . After about 30 seconds a series beeps comes , 5 beeps then a pause then 5 more then twice more . The airbag light does not come on or seat belt warning light does not come on. The truck had some front end damage but I don't think the air bags were deployed. Any help with this would be great . Thanks

Have you tried reading codes? I have an 08 KR with the information center, and it will beep, throw a code, but no CEL if its not mission critical. I get a PATS code every so often like that after we've been messing with our Taurus computer and remotes parked next to it. Worth a look see.

The beep should be accompanied by a light normally. Whether it's the seat belt reminder or the parking brake being set. It's possible that one of those switches are bad and the dash bulb is burned out.

To check that the bulbs aren't burnt, look at the instrument cluster the moment you turn the key to the run position. Those lights should illuminate momentarily as a test. If they don't, bulb that's burned out may be what's trying to alert you.

Also, verify that the airbag light comes on momentarily. If it doesn't and the bags have deployed, it's possible that somebody pulled the bulb from the cluster to mask a faulty airbag system.

Just some thoughts. Could be something completely different.

the air bag light above the radio is just to alert you that your passenger air bag is turned off, due to weight on the seat and the seat belt not being latched. verify the air bag light in the gauge cluster is coming on at key up. when the chime goes off, is everyone in the front seat wearing their seatbelts? the center front seat and back seats don't matter just the driver and front passenger seat.

Shine a flashlight on the front of the instrument cluster to locate the airbag light. Remove the bulb on the rear of the cluster that you think lines up with it and shine a light through the hole. Look at the indicator. If you see your flashlight shining brightly through it you've found the bulb location. If not reinstall the bulb you removed and try another one.

If you're not sure where your airbag light is refer to page 10-12 of the owner's manual linked above. If the bulb is missing, install it. If it is present, replace it. If the light still doesn't work, the system has likely been tampered with and requires some deeper diagnosis.

Its not about the light in the cluster......mine has not worked for about a year. It is the warning light above the radio that will cause it. If that light is not coming on then it will beep. Its not really anything to do with the light in the cluster.....so if your air bag warning light above the radio is not working that's your problem

I don't think you're tracking here. Yes, that's one reason the airbag light in the cluster would activate. However the light in the cluster isn't coming on at all. Not even when the key is cycled and all of the lights test for a few seconds. The beeping should be accompanied by a flashing light, but he has none. Therefore, searching for the faulty/missing light as the first step.

My suspicion is the airbag system has been tampered with. But gotta go through the steps. Ultimately will probably need to have truck scanned for airbag codes.

It doesn't flash codes. To identify the code present, you must have it scanned. Unfortuantely most of the DIY scanners do not read airbag, ABS, and other body codes. So you can spend the money on a good scanner that does (which will always have a good use) or take it to a shop for diagnosis.

You could pull the connector from the front crash sensor and look for corrosion. Or see if the sensor is cracked. makuloco2000 was kind enough to post a video yesterday outlining this. But unless you see an obvious issue, don't throw parts at it. Take it to a reputable shop or dealer.
