Oil????
My truck is due for her oil change and was wondering if Royal Purple would be a good idea? Im at 98,000 miles????? Any ideas suggestions??? Thanks

What have you been using? Why change? I don't think anything serves the engine any better than the Motorcraft blend.
Wal mart motorcraft. It works and it's cheap. Royal purple is spendy!
I went for the motorcraft 5w20 blend also. I talk with couple local shop owners, they recommend staying with that for the 150's.
I've got an oil thread on here somewhere looking for it now
Here ye go ..... consensus is use the stuff the dealer tells you to ;) https://www.f150online.com/forums/ot...u-running.html We are lucky that Ford has their own ... do any other car manufacturers have an oil? I have not noticed one on the shelves before. |
98k isn't that much and RP probably isn't worth the extra cost.
Pick one type of oil when the truck is new and use it for the entire truck's life. Changing oil that late could cause problems. Motorcraft oil and filters work best.
^What's the basis for that? I've heard folks say that before, but I've never come up with a logical, objective reason why changing oils would do anything to a motor. I'm superstitious enough that that's something I would do, but don't know if I actually buy it.
Going with consensus: Motorcraft 5w20 and Motorcraft filter. Never sway to save bux or chase claims.
I use Mobil 1 5w-20 and Wix filters, but not because I think Mobile 1 is going to give me any better protection or performance. I just use it in pretty much everything gasoline-powered. Paying for RP would do nothing for you (nor will a switch to any other oil), and the most likely things to happen are bad (gum up cam phasers, more oil burn, etc). Leave it be.
I used RP for years on my truck but have switched to Mobil1 Full Synthetic with Motorcraft filters. Royal Purple is nice stuff, but it is spendy...
