advice please

So my dad took his 04 5.4 in for a plug change. The mechanic dropped a piece of the plug on the piston, after pulling the head replacing the head gasket all was thought to be ok. After further inspection, the cam phasers chains and guides needed to be changed. pieces of plastic ended up in the pan and blocked the screen but it was caught before it even left the bay. Went back in the shop pan cleaned, brand new oil pump put on (paid for by shop) after a month, dad got it back yesterday took a trip in town truck dies..... IMO the shop should be on the hook for all this. The truck ran perfect until having the plugs done. IDK if the guy was just not as familiar with this process or it was just a case of bad luck so needless to say its back in the shop and the guy is gonna figure out why it died. I know my dad is getting pissed but won't really say anything. Just trying to get some advice for him any suggestions?

It all depends what was wrong with it when it died. If it was something like the fuel pump module that went to crap then it'd not their fault, but if it spit a plug or the cam phaser guide broke then yes it would be their fault..
This is why I don't trust shops and do work myself. Unless its something i can't do then I do research to find a reliable company..

Yea I mean if its something not having anything to do with the phasers/plugs etc that they did yea I don't have any issue with dad paying for it but if it is something that they did then I would think they are on the hook. Bad part is this guy is one of his friends so its a touchy situation but he is in about 2300 in the plugs, phasers and all that went with it

Wait to see what the verdict is. In my line of work (hvac/r tech.) If you break something you were suppose to fix you don't charge the customer you eat the cost.
