Temp Gauge Tweaked

I was driving home from a dirtbike trip in the mountains yesterday and noticed that my temp gauge was 3/4 of the way to the hot side. I noticed this about 5 miles into my drive home. My gauge never gets more than slightly above the halfway point. I pulled over, turned the truck off and the temp needle (like all my other gauge needles) dropped, but it didn't drop all the way, it dropped to just below the 1/4 mark. I thought this was strange. I started it back up and it returned to about the 3/4 point. I continued my drive home keeping a close eye on it, but it never went above the 3/4 point.

This morning I get in my truck to drive to work, start the truck and check the temp gauge and it's already at the 1/4 point. I drive to work and as the engine heats up the needle settles at around the 3/4 mark. It seems like my temp gauge dial got repositioned on the post or something, but I don't see how that could happen. It goes from 1/4 to 3/4 now as opposed to 0 to 1/2 like it used to.

My truck is a 2004 Lariat 4x4 with just a tad over 90k on the clock.

Has anyone ever had this happen before?
