Cam timing range at idle
Cam timing range at idle
05 f150 5.4 200k is making a sporadic knock sound. More of a cycle, 4 knocks in 1-2 sec then sounds great for 10-15 sec then 3-4 knocks. Hooked the scanner up and saw the cam advance on bank 1 was -2 - 2, and bank 2 was 7-12. I then hooked it up to a 04 and both were at 0 +\- 0.1, a lot tighter. Any thoughts on this?

Hi & welcome.
At idle the cams are degree- neutral ( as you saw on the reference truck ) - so you in point of fact answered yer initial question.
As to what you are seeing - read this: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...placement.html
Could be something as simple as the VCT solenoid or cam position sensor on that bank, or a much larger issue.
You could try switching either/both side-side as a quick check. You could also try just unplugging the VCT on that bank as an alternate - but this may not as conclusive.
Invasive surgery may be required to check the health of all the cam-related components ( guides/chain, tensioner, etc)
Good luck.
