Programming Key Question

I lost my keys over the weekend and have the spare key still. I read the how to thread on programing PATS keys and I only have the one key now which means I would need to take it to the dealership to get another. My question is, does my scantool have the capabilities to do key programming? I have the Equus Innova 3130c. Or is that special tool still needed? If so I guess I'll be heading to the dealership or our locksmith. Thanks for any help.

If you don't have to have a genuine "second key" for doing your own programming, you can go to a hardware store that has a key cloning machine, the cost will be about 1/2 what the dealer will charge to make you a true second key. I don't believe that a locksmith can do a true second key, just a clone.

I will to call around and see what I can find out. Sorry, I'm not really familiar with all this but whats the difference between a true second key and a clone?

A clone cannot be used as a second key to program your own spare keys in the truck. Programming your own keys in the truck require both ORIGINAL keys or 2 keys properly made by the dealer. If you try to do it with one original key and a clone, it won't program, the system thinks you stuck the same key back in.
