Brake Hardware

I'm replacing the pads with Wagner MX1083

The Hardware kit has four u shaped, with a hook on each end, wire hangers.
I removed the old pads and there is nothing like that installed.

What is it and where do they go? Wonder if they aren't needed, by manufacture or Ford design?

anyone got an idea?

Sound like the clip that holds the pads in place. There is a tab on the top and bottom of each pad and the hooks on the clip keeps the pads from sliding out of place. The old ones pull out easily and slide the new one in.

Look closer... you should have had them on the old hardware. They might be so crusted with brake dust and grime that they blend in and you didn't see them.

Or whoever replaced the brakes last time (assuming this isn't the first time) did it wrong.

These clips hold the pads in the proper place and reduce brake noise. They also help reduce friction so the pads slide back properly.

And since you sound like a brake job newbie... don't forget to clean and grease your sliders!
