Heater Issues

Having some problems with my heater. Doesn't matter if I have it on defrost, floor, etc, it only works on the highest settings 3 & 4. It does absolutely nothing on 1 & 2. Blower Motor Resistor????????? It also makes a ticking noise when it is not on fully hot. I think that might be a blend door issue. Does the whole dash have to come apart to fix these issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It gets too hot in the truck because it only works on full blast and then I have to turn it off until I start to freeze, and then turn it on again. Very cold mornings up here in WI already.

The resistor can be accessed through the glove compartment. Never done the blend door.

Not sure about the resistor (though I suspect you can do it w/o disassembling the dash) but I just did my blend door actuator. You just have to drop the glove box and take out the radio to get to it. It's a really tight fit to get the screws out, and not much room to move your wrench (no room for a ratchet so a box end wrench is about your only option) but it's not hard otherwise. The spindle on them is keyed so you'll want to plug the new one into the wiring harness and turn on the ignition so you can index the spindle to the same position as it is on the one you pull out.

Thanks for all the help guys. It was the blower motor resistor. I replaced it in less than 10 minutes. I'm not going to tackle the blend door yet though because it still works. Can't hear it when the radio is on or even over my exhaust most of the time.

Blend door actuator isn't very difficult, but as others have stated a real tight fit. I did mine a few months back. Part was cheap and no more tick, tick, tick! Here was the part number for my '08 Motorcraft YH-1752 Blend Door Actuator.
