Dreaded Ticking

Hello all, new here. I know this topic has been covered all to much. Just sorting through all the threads and post hasnt been all that helpful. Ive looked into all the TSB from ford. The issue im having is when warm it makes the ticking noise, not noticable when driving only at idle. I took everybody advice ive seen posted on this issue and replaced the VCT solenoids with new OEM ford ones. Still having the same issue. I even pulled the plugs on the VCT solenoids when its running and the tick was still there. Ive also replaced the CSS and that didnt nothing also. I put my stethoscope by the phaser on the valve cover on the passenger side and its extremely noticable there. One the driver side i hear just the normal sound of all the internals. Ive also read that its possible that the manifold could have a crack but it doesnt sound like an exhaust leak. Could it possibly a faulty oil pump? Im getting ready to check the oil pressure this thursday on my day off and see what it says. Just trying to get some feedback for now to try to solve this annoying issue. Truck is a 05 F150 5.4l with 99000 Miles. Ive changed the oil every 3-4k Miles but i have been using Mobil 1 5w-20 syn and Mobil 1 filters every change. Thanks in advance

Without actually hearing the noise, it will be difficult for anybody to tell you what it really is. These trucks, and all modulars have noisy fuel injectors. If you start to get plugged up, they can get pretty loud. Try running some techron through a tank of gas, it may help.

Can you post a sound clip of the engine running? That would be most helpful....

the phasers make the noise, not the solenoids.

The solenoids can get quite noisy. My truck is an example of this. I have no problem with my phasers, but my solenoids are quite noisy. Loudest between 500-1200 rpm. Some noise on the road driving in areas that have buildings or walls to bounce the noise back.

let me get off work and ill try to get a sound clip. Ill try the techron and see if it will clear the injectors also. I thought it was injector slap when it first started. So far it hasnt messed with performance or driveability. Just the sound is annoying, espcially say next to a building or drive throughs

believe ive found the issue. decided to get the stethoscope out again and around a plug it got extremely loud. put some pressure on the COP and noise went away. bought a plug and COP today from work, going to jump on it as soon as i get home. have the plug removal tool on stand by if it wants to be a PIA
