2004 to 2006 phaser issue

Does anybody out there, that has a 5.4 triton, that has not had an issue with the cam phasers? It just seems that this is a problem eventually with alll the 5.4 tritons. The reason im asking is, i have a 2004 with 33k miles, that from what i read and hear will probably develop this problem at any time. I like the truck, but dont want to have to deal with this problem.

Keep it, it's not a big deal. It can be easily fixed if it ever gets bad.

i've got an 04 with 102k on it and still runs great. i've had it since 06 with 38k, so far unless they were replaced before i got it, they are still original. i'll probably dig into the front of the engine some time and replace the tensioners, chains and phasers.

I haven't had the issue with mine yet. I have little over 142k on it now and its still going strong.

It has much to do with running the improper oil viscosity & not using a Motorcraft FL-820-S Filter.

Cam phasers are noisy by design and pose no problem. No big deal unless you hate the noise but you'll spend a lot of money to fix it even though they will still be noisy after the needless repair.

My '04 started clattering early in life around 70K miles. But other than the clattering it ran absolutely perfect until the day it died in an unfortunate accident last year. It had 155K on it when totaled. "God rest its soul"

My replacement '05 now has 125K on it and makes no noise whatsoever. Another perfect running 5.4 for me.
Knock on wood

The 04-06 cam phasers have hollow pins, vs the solid pins in revised late model cam phasers. This is only an issue for motors that have timing tensioner seals that fail (a lot of 04-06 5.4's have this problem), causing low oil pressure at hot idle, which causes the phaser to slap around internally until the hollow pins fail. If your seals are in tact, then your phasers are in tact. While a Motorcraft filter (or any other with a good anti-drainback valve) and proper weight oil help with this, that still won't do any good if the tensioner seals are bad.

I have a 2005 F150 and at 69000 miles I got tried of listing to the noise and had the front of my motor redone. Makes no noise now and runs great. I keep all my maintenance up since I have owned the truck I think the person before me was running cheap oil and oil filters.
