stock stereo questions...

I have an '05 STX w/ stock stereo/single cd player.
CD player been acting up for months, it quit ejecting cd's. You have to slide in a credit card and bump the cd to eject.
Not interested in aftermarket, a simple swap with a replacement (stock) unit is where I'm headed.
Stock units are easy finds, and I found a few with the 6-disk player, so here's my questions;

Would the 6-disk unit be a direct swap for the single player (fit in same dash space/same wiring,etc)?

Any difference in fitment/installation of stereos from model years '04 and up?

I found one out of an '06 Fusion that looks identical to mine. Did Ford use the same stereo in other vehicles?

Appreciate whatever info you can offer. thanks.

Not sure about the fusion radio, but the other f150 radios should slide right in and plug in.

Same thing happened to mine (but in my old '03 F250). Didn't know about the credit card trick-thanks for the tip.

Ford used the same stereo in multiple models. One thing I found. I have an 06 XLT with the single disc player and bought an 08 6 disc locally. the brackets on the 08 were set back further than the 06 causing the face of the radio to stick out more, not allowing me to completely clip the face plate back around it on the dash.

I remedied this by removing the brackets and notching out the screw holes. I used a larger headed machine screw to tighten it back down and clamp into the bracket.
