Window Regulators. Ugh...

My drivers door window regulator just started acting up, scraping / squealing when I opened / closed the window. I should be okay as long as I resist the urge to actually use the window. However this had already been replaced under warranty. I am wondering if there is a replacement / upgrade available that is actually reliable, or am I doomed to replacing window regulators every 4 years or so?

The Dorman brand available at parts houses is sturdier built. I replaced both original fronts one time with the Dorman.

That is what I suspected. Dorman has typically made top grade parts. Just wasn't sure about regulators. Simply put, I do NOT want to keep fishing into these doors if I don't have to!

They shouldn't be going out that often, but the Dorman ones aren't too expensive if you get the whole assembly from RockAuto IIRC.

I had an issue with both of my rear windows acting up and deciding on their own when they were gonna roll back up and when they weren't. It ended up just being my master switch being messed up and affecting all the other switches as well, but I spent a lot of time looking at the regulators.

Nah, I recognize the sound. My wife's old Focus did the same thing. Ford OEM regulators are not one of their "Better Ideas"...

I only worry about ordering the Dorman from Rock Auto because I am not sure what part #s to get... I think they may actually have a phone line to call and ask though...

FYI, for those digging for the information, and this is relevant to the 2004 XLT Supercab with power windows (I doubt any XLTs had manual anyway) complete with motor...

Drivers Front: Dorman 741-430

Passengers Front: Dorman 741-431

Still digging for the rear.

Part #s for Super Crew, and Standard cab with the shorter doors are different...

I was just sharing what happened to mine, I don't doubt that your regulators are going out!

Recently, you've really been VERY on top of being helpful and listing info or providing more info than necessary so that others can use it in the future. Props

I've had to replace two so far (drivers front and passenger rear), and so far the Dormans have held up. Drivers side went out when I was rolling it up, just started grinding and wouldn't move. Other one sounded like a .22 went off in the back seat and then the window fell. I have a feeling I will be replacing the other two at some point in time...

KMAC0694, that is kind of how I am in real life too.. I spent a few years fixing up the house, and building my woodworking shop. My truck got a little neglected due to too many projects. The wood ship isn't finished yet, but it is at least well equipped. I just need more hands than I have... If you wanna help an old fart hang sheet rock let me know!

That's good to hear, the world needs more people like that. I try to be helpful, but I didn't take a few opportunities to provide info. I made a pretty cool, over-engineered triple flag pole holder for my bed, and should've made a how-to, but was too lazy haha.

I actually really wouldn't mind helping you out if I was in the area and had some time!

If you have a drawing for the flag pole holders, I would love to build one. I am thinking something that braces to the stake pockets. Would be great for my next PINS run with the 4x4 club...

I'm going to pick the thing up next time I go home, I want it for tailgating. I'll be sure to take pics of it and make a front-side-top diagram. It won't be a super detailed walk through that's stupid proof, but those that are even slightly inclined will be able to figure it out. I just threw away a diagram I had on an index card and deleted pictures of it on my phone to free up storage room a few days ago . . . oh well!
