2004 F150 5.4 L 3v triton Rough Idle when warm

I have a 2004 F150 5.4 L Lariat. I was getting ready to take it on a road trip and made it about 15 miles when it started spitting and sputtering on the highway. I pulled over and decided to try to turn around and go home. Made it back home and pulled codes. There were a lot, some where misfires on 5,6,7,8 and then a P0022 I believe (cam timing retard bank 2 I think). So I replaced all the plugs cleared the codes and started it up. It still ran like the timing was off but the misfires did not return. I then pulled it apart and replaced timing chains, Cam Phasers and Solenoids. Put it back together and started it, it ran great. Then I took it for a drive about 30 minutes in it acted like the timing was off again. I shut it off and let it sit, started it and again and it ran great for about 30 minutes. I changed oil twice, once with castrol 5w 20 and a driveworks filter, then thought maybe that was a bad idea when it was still not better so I changed oil again using motorcraft filter and motorcraft synthetic blend 5w 20 Still no change. Research showed it could have been sludge plugging the oil port to the solenoids So I ran seafoam in the oil. It is still not better. I'm at a loss, I don't know what could be wrong at this time. I'm about to check the oil pressure and see what that is at. What is normal oil pressure on this truck? If the oil pressure is low what could it be (pump, Pickup screen, ???). Any other ideas? Someone thought running a gallon of diesel fuel in the oil for about 15 minutes then changing oil again to clean all the sludge out of the motor. thought on that???

Thank you all for your input.

Wow. You did a lot for a p0022 error and it should have solved your problem. How sludged up was it under the valve covers? How many miles on the motor?

The ONLY safe way to chemically desludge the engine is with an AutoRX treatment. Seafoam or diesel fuel is a no-no.

It had some sludge build up but was not that bad in my opinion. The motor has 175xxx miles on it.

the motor had a tick to it since i bought it with 127xxx miles on it so i decided it was time to replace the phasers anyway.

I've heard about autorx but that's about it. I don't know what makes it better then any of the other sludge cleaners out there. and I did Seafoam because that is what the dealership recommended.

Seafoam is junk for these engines. Has the throttle body been cleaned. Has the MAF been cleaned?

Just like blue says have the mass airflow sensor and throttle body been cleaned? Also you should check your fpdm mounted above the spare tire on the frame, that can cause rough idle.

Yes cleaned the MAF and Throttle body.

It is throwing codes now that I didn't post in the thread because I didn't have the list of codes with me.

Before i replaced the plugs, timing chain, phasers and solenoids. I had the following codes:

P0022
P0054
P1184
P2198
P0300
P0305
P0306
P0307
P0308

Now with all the work done the codes I get are:

P0171
P0054
P0022
P0305
P0316
P0340
P0345
P2270
P0175
P1184

The FPDM was replaced about 9 months ago

With all those codes, you have an electrical issue. Start checking ALL your fuses, I forget which one specifically can cause that.

If it was electrical wouldn't it do it all the time and not just when it is warm?

Just ran some oil pressure test on it. With a cold engine when I first start it up my oil pressure is about 50 - 55 psi, once it gets to normal operating temp it is about 18-20 psi. If I hold the brakes and put it in gear then try to accelerate at 1000 rpm i get about 40 psi. but then when i let off the accelerator if the truck don't die from sputtering then it is about 15 psi.

I assume these readings are low but I do not know what this motor has for normal readings to begin with.

does anyone know where a good running 3v triton 5.4l should be sitting for oil pressure?
