steering leak

last weekend i noticed a small drip of fluid under the floor, went under the floor and this is what i found

[IMG][/IMG]

Seems to be power steering fluid. I will start to check it this weekend to see if i can find where is it coming from.

In the meantime, any suggestions on where to look for the leak?

BTW a week ago i took the truck for alignment, any chance that the leak could be caused by the alignment guy while doing the work?

My 08 f150 does not have power steering fluid. My power steering system is full of transmission fluid. Its in the manual.

I am commenting because I had a leak around that general area, took my truck to ford with low fluid in the reservoir and they replaced my rack under warranty. Costed me $100.00

didn't know about the fluid type but thanks, good tip.

Replacing the steering rack is not something i would like to do... hopefully is just a hose or a seal or something simpler

I had a drip that looked exactly like that starting a few weeks ago. It's in the shop right now having the lines from the pump to the rack and the rack to the cooler replaced. The return line to the cooler had rusted through and after dripping for a while the drip turned into a flow. In fact they just called me about an hour ago to tell me they will have to drop the rack because the fittings are frozen in the rack from corrosion. I live in MA and this isn't unusual on a vehicle that has been driven over the chemically treated roads here for 9 winters. I replaced the line from the cooler to the reservoir myself last year.

In my 04 Mercon tranny fluid is used in the power steering.
