truck wont crank!!

I was getting a custom drive shaft built and while the truck was in the garage i added 2 rigid duelly D2 lights used all the wiring that came with the kit. Lights work great. got my drive shaft back installed it. had to put the truck in neutral and roll it a bit then finished the install. put it back in park. tried to start the truck everything turns on lights locks work everything truck wont crank. jumped out the starter and it started to crank to it seems to me that the starter isnt getting the signal i do have an auto starter in the truck had it for 5 years never a problem. please any advice will be good i think its the pats system. oohh also the gauge cluster says check gauges and the 4lo and 4 high lights flash 3 times and then the service wrench comes on and lights stop flashing

I believe it has to do with the pats system because the gauges say check gauges and the 4lo and 4hi lights flash I can't see the auto starter tell the truck to do that. I tried to pull the codes but edge wouldn't bring them up. Then I tried a hand held reader and it would read then say file error or something like that. Any ideas?

Start checking fuses and relays and wiring plus yer battery and or connections....

double check the wiring for those new lights....make sure you didn't tap into the wrong circuit for the trigger wire if came with a relay harness or you didn't hit/cut/disconnect anything while installing them....

The 4H indicator status is transmitted to the instrument cluster from the 4WD control module (PCM) through the controller area network (CAN), circuits 1827 (WH/LG) and 1828 (PK/LG). A steady indicator displays whether the vehicle is, in 4L or 4H, according to the driver selection. Flashing 4H and 4L indicators is an indication that the instrument cluster has lost communication with the 4WD control module (PCM). For information about CAN, refer to Information Bus.

Possible Causes
*4WD system fault
*CAN circuits:
*1827 (WH/LG)
*1828 (PK/LG)
*4WD control module (PCM)
Instrument cluster
disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes might reset the pcm and clear the glich....

Ill disconnect and see what happens and check stock wiring where I went threw the firewall, might have nicked a wire or something. I powered the lights right from the battery so didn't tape into any factory wiring. Some wire must have popped off something I'm guessing. The check gauges thing is really stumping me

the disconnect for 30 mins didnt do anything. still cant get the hand held reader to pull any codes. its says link error what would cause the odb to not send codes? i know there is a code for the cats so it should send that at the very least

First check the cigarette lighter fuse...make sure its good

The next question is.....is the code reader "obdii CAN compliant"???

all fuses are good cig lighter works the programmer is good for odbII. My edge wont pull codes either i get to the screen to scan then i press scan.. and it just says initiation scan and i have to unplug the edge for it to stop. when i have the key in the on position dash says check gauges and about every minute or so the 4x4lo 4x4hi lights flash.

also when the truck is off the security light blinks like normal. then when i put the key in and turn it to the on position light shuts off and stays off like it always does. this is driving my crazy. where can i find info on why truck would say "check gauges"?

If it was a PATS problem would the light blink at a different rate?

I had a similar problem, my truck wouldn't start or even try to turn over. Turned out my PATS system has a key thing under the dash called a silencer, when unplugged it cuts off the starter. Unplugged it and plugged it back in and boom it started.

Is your truck set to a tune? If it is return it to stock. Maybe your PCM needs reflashing.

I tried unplugging all the connections under the dash and reconnecting them it didnt work. The truck does have a tune right now the stage 2 from edge evo have had that tune for years now. i tried to return it to stock, but it seems like the edge cant communicate with the odbII port. One problem is that the odbII port isnt working like it should. it has power but wont do whatever is it suppose to do.

How old is your battery? I did a little search and some say its the battery, the battery's still has decent voltage but also have a bad cell which doesn't give the battery enough umph to work right. Did you check with a tester if you have proper voltage in the odb port? It could also be a ground problem.

check ALL of your fuses. also make sure all your relays are in place in the fuse panels. the check gauges is because of your engine is off and sensing no engine oil pressure. that message will clear once you can get your engine to start. if you put the key in the run position and jump the starter, will it start and run?? also make sure the pcm on the fire wall is plugged in and no loose connections

If you jump in your truck and turn the key to the on position under normal conditions it will not say check gauges. All fuses are good. I need to check relays.plugs on fire wall are good battery is putting out 12.6 v odb has power. I must have nicked aa wire when I went threw the fire wall ill have to pull out the blower motor and check tonight. Probably a ground somewhere
