Truck got broke into, alarm system recommendations??

Last night my truck got broken into, shattered the back window and now I'm looking at getting either a viper smart start alarm system or Clifford smart start cs5000 alarm system, anyone have anything or recommend anything good??

That sucks but...

...what is the first thing you do when you hear a car alarm blaring?

1 - Ignore it and keep doing what you're doing. Stupid car alarms are always going off.

2 - What car alarm? My house is so sound proof I can't hear them outside, thank goodness, or they would ruin my evening entertainment or sleep.

3 - Call 911 of course because the police will be there in under 20 seconds to catch the miscreants because there are never any false alarms and the police are just waiting to catch these criminals.

4 - Start cursing the idiot who's car alarm is blaring for no good reason again... wait, is that my car? Where's my key fob to turn it off before the neighbors file a noise complaint again!

In my opinion car alarms are a waste of your money and an annoyance to everyone else. Criminals treat them as a joke because they are. They'll be long gone with the damage done and whatever stolen before you can even turn it off. If they don't turn it off first and take the alarm system... with the vehicle.

It likely won't even offer you the peace of mind you might be hoping for from it. You'll probably be worrying even more, keeping an ear open for the alarm, all the time.

My advice, make your vehicle less of a target. Or build a garage if you can, that is a better investment all around. Even parking well off the street on your property can help if that's doable.

In the end though even that may not prevent a break in or simple vandalism. Such is the cost of owning property. And it's your call if an alarm will work for your situation. First though, ask your neighbors what they would do if they heard a car alarm. At 4am. On a Sunday.

Your truck didn't come with an alarm? Most of these trucks come with a security system from the factory, unless it has manual locks.

I have a Clifford system on mine. I like it. I don't use the Smart Start a whole lot, but it's there if I need it.

Insurance that covers all your requirements (damages, stolen contents, etc.) is money better spent than on an alarm system.

The only "viper system" that might stop a thief would be a few pit-vipers left loose in the cab. Not very practical for you though.

I love the Viper with the remote start!! The blinking LED light is a deterrent in itself! Most people who are breaking into cars aren't going to stick around while your alarm is going crazy. Yes you may loose a window but you're most likely not going to loose your head unit or your GPS ect. I still think they are worth the investment.

Before I got my alarm, my back window was busted out. They had time to go through the truck since I was in a movie. Oh, and it was also raining that night. So in addition to the window being broken, you can end up with a very wet cab. Moldy seats and carpet aren't very fun.

I have black leather seats, and it gets pretty hot in the Texas sun. Remote start is wonderful in the summer.

clifford and viper are the same thing. get a 2 way pager. mine is good for up to 3000 feet. will show me if a tire is kicked, what window broke, or if its running. get a glass break sensor, along with hood and door pins.
