What just happened with my steering?

The oddest thing just happened. I went to get in the truck and leave and I noticed the steering was hard to turn. After backing up and forward several times turning it I determined the steering to feel like it was binding on something as every 1/4 turn it felt like it got really tight. In fact it would lock into position if I let go of it and be at a full rotation right going in circles.

After going around the block and coming back when I pulled in the driveway it felt like it had fixed itself momentarily, but when I went to set off it continued to do this cogged steering feeling where it seems as if the u-joint felt like it was binding every 1/4 turn.

This started out of nowhere, where should I begin to check? I am not certain the proper procedure for checking the u-joint and I want to make sure it's not something else.

I would suspect the power steering pump. Suck the fluid out of the reservoir with a turkey baster or a hand pump and refill it with synthetic Mercon V ATF. See if that helps.

I believe this is my issue. http://www.f150forum.com/f4/replaced...g-shaft-97069/

I am going to try and Deep Creep it and see what happens later today.

Just spray the steering knuckles with WD40 or oil. I had the same issue with my 04 and this fixed it good luck!

That certainly makes sense - and it wouldn't hurt to get some fresh fluid into the power steering too. When I did mine, I repeated the process twice after a couple weeks each time, one quart of fluid will refill just the reservoir 3 times.

The deep creep seems to have worked. We will see how long term the fix is.

I am flushing and refilling the entire trucks lubricants later this week (rear end and all) so it'll have fresh fluid in it as well.
