Rattle noise with Gotts Mod?
Rattle noise with Gotts Mod?
I have an 05 F150 with 5.4. A few weeks ago I changed plugs with sp515, new coil boots, changed oil, cleaned throttle body, cleaned MAF and new belt. It has been running good, so I decided to do the gotts mod with schedule 40 pvc. The truck responded great with it. Idled great and ran out strong. I started having a rattle noise coming from drivers side dash. I changed back to stock unit to see if noise went away. And it did, but idle seems rough now. Anybody got any ideas? I was also getting a check engine p0430 code and it went off today on its own, should it do that? Thanks for any info. I have been trying to use search function, but not finding anything on this.
the rattling noise might be the pipe moving in the fender hole...its not secure enough....

The cat code you are seeing is either a bad O2 sensor or an exhaust leak ahead of the cat or a bad cat. The computer compares the O2 that is ahead of the cat with the one after it. The one before it should be swinging between .1 and .9 volts. This is hard to see with a digital meter, and analog meter or a scope is your best bet. The one after the cat should usually be almost flat. In order to properly diagnose it you really need a 2 channel scope or a good graphing scanner. If the O2 sensors check ok and the exhaust checks it is most likely a bad cat.
Do yourself a favor, if you need any of these parts, get them from a dealer. The aftermarket O2 sensors are poor replacements usually. Another thing to look at is the connectors and wireing on the O2 sensors, have seen several cut or damaged. This is why if we connect the scanner and see unusaul readings we usually will probe the sensor as well to make sure it is not just a connection issue.

All vacuum hoses are correct. I know that my exhaust manifolds are leaking. Will be replaced soon. Hopefully by next weekend. I was going to go ahead and put magnaflow high flow cats on it also an probably run a SI/SO or SI/DO. I can't pull the price of longtubes, so will go back with new manifolds. I would say that i'm getting alot of problems from leaking manifolds. I have a bolt broke off on each side. The noise had me stumped thou.
Might have shaved too much off of it and it's rattling around like 88 said. That'd be my first guess. And did you unhook the battery while swapping them out so the truck can reset itself for the change? That can cause it to idle a little rough too.
Could have been to much off of it. I actually thought about that. It fit tight though. May just buy the Spectra 8741 and try that. No, I did not disconnect battery. I thought I had read that it wasn't needed. I will do it, when I try it again. I haven't drove it much since putting it back to factory. So, I am not 100% sure the rattle is gone. The rough idle came back after I put it back factory.
I have also retorgued the plugs to make sure they where not loose. COP where seated good. Could the leaking manifolds cause the rough idle? They are leaking bad, I will admit that. I got an exhaust shop locally who will replace manifold and both cats (magnaflow high flow) for $650. I may just do manifold myself, but really dreading it.
