Mercon V vs Mercon

I drained my transfer case and started refilling it with Mercon V

The service manual states to use Mercon and not to mix the 2.

Will it hurt me to use Mercon V instead?

I only added half a quart before I realized what I was doing.

Mercon hasn't been made in years, and *ALL* applications that specified Mercon now specify Mercon V. You must have an older truck with an older service manual.

In reality, it doesn't make a difference what you use in that transfer case as long as it's transmission fluid.

Strange, that all the parts stores stock both MERCON and MERCON V... right next to each other.

What you are seeing on the shelf is compatible universal fluid. As I said, real Mercon hasn't been made in years.

Motorcraft Mercon V works in place of Mercon. Just put Mercon v in my transmission a couple weeks ago
