Time to part ways

Unfortunately the time has come that I need to sell my truck. I have a work truck so I rarely drive my truck and the extra car payment is just not necessary anymore. As much as I don't want to part was with it, it is time. I'm trying to make a deal with my dad to purchase his 70' Cougar Eliminator 428CJ that has been sitting in the garage since 79'. I've wanted this car since I was a little kid and it may finally be my chance

Right now I'm trying to decide whether to remove some of the extras I put on the truck or try and sell it how it sits. I've put over $4,500 in extras into the truck since I bought it 2 1/2 years ago and I realize I won't be getting much of that back. KBB value on the truck is $18,618 in very good condition. I would assume it would be best to remove some of the aftermarket stuff and sell it out right because it does not affect the market value a whole lot; or if I sell it like it is what's a fair price? Let me know what you guys think

Hate to hear you need to sell it. I love your truck and i love the yellow! I wish I had got the chance to end up with a yellow f150.

Awww man....now who am I supposed to copy, LOL! Seriously man, I'm sorry to hear that you're selling that beauty, I along with most everyone here love your truck. But you and only you know when it's time, priorities take over and you have to do what's necessary. Kudos to you for that. The Cougar is sweet.....I'd give my left nad to have a 70's something muscle car again....nuthin' like 'em, that's for sure! I think you should take off the aftermarket parts and get what you can for them. Personally I'd like to have the four fogs and the bar that they're mounted on.....I think it'll fit on my Predator nicely You would no doubt make some quick cash selling off the added parts, and like you said it wouldn't effect the sale value of your rig. You and I both know that the Smittybilt would bring some nice cash, and I'd go as far as swapping out the tow mirrors for a pair of plain ol' power mirrors and getting some extra cash selling the tows. Make what you can, it'll all come in handy. Good luck to you and don't become a stranger after you sell your rig! If you do plan on selling the parts please give me first shot on the fogs. Keep in touch and let us know how everything works out.

Thanks for the kind words. I honestly never thought I would be selling this truck until it was getting old and tired but things change in life. It was a fun and expensive project but I'm ready to start on a new one sometime soon. I guess I'll be pulling stuff off the truck and start selling a few things. I sent you a PM regarding the light bar and lights. I'll definitely continue to hang around the forums.

Love to see some more of the Cougar - very nice! You could list your truck as is for now with the mods and see if there are any takers. Might be someone who really likes what you've done with it, as I'm sure you know most on here think you did a great job putting it all together. Don't know what your time frame is to sell, but if after a couple weeks you don't see much interest in the truck where you have it priced with mods I'd probably think about returning to close to stock and taking market value. Good luck!

Sucks you have to get rid of it but you gotta do what ya gotta do. $18k is pretty good, my 04 lists for just under $10k.

That is kind of the plan at this point. I'm not in a rush to sell it but I don't want to sit around and wait forever. The Cougar has been my dads since he was in high school and has been parked in the garage since 79' when my parents built there house. It's all there it just needs some TLC, the stripes put back on, exhaust work etc. A very rare car in itself. Here are a few more pictures that I took a few years ago.

Dang, how many miles you got on yours? I guess mileage kills the value of these trucks.

I have 146,000, so I'm knockin on the door of 150,000. I was going to trade it in for an 11 Ranger on Friday, all I had to do was sign the paper work but I can't get rid of it. I'm too attached Plus trade in value on it is damn near nothing so I'm better off keeping it.

Looks like you'll have a nice project with the Cougar. Don't disappear from the forum though, we need updates on it!

I hear ya, I'm attached too, it will be a sad day to watch my truck drive away. I went to look at trading mine in this fall and they wanted to give me $14,500 for it. I got a good laugh and walked out. All in all, I would sell my truck to get that car. It probably won't be until this winter until I got it either way. My parents live in PA and I live in OK I'll be sticking around the forums for sure.

I'm originally from NE PA, the closest "notable" city is Wilkes-Barre. Go Steelers! I'm a big fan if can't tell by my truck, haha.

If you're going to be picking the car up and come through somewhere in Western Pa let me know. I'm sure we could find somewhere to have a few drinks.
