05 Lariat SCrew, hesitation/Stuttering!!!

Hey All,

Last night my truck hesitated/sputtered when I hit the gas after a stop light. Today on the highway I felt like it was acting very strange, either like I wasn't using all cylinders and I felt what seemed to be more hesitation. I have had all the plugs replaced in the last 1.5 - 2 years and had to have a coil pack replaced in the fall.

Any thoughts on what this could be. Could it be the fuel pump control module that I've read a ton about?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Leif

Hey I can tell you from personal experience that my truck really "woke" up by replacing the FPDM (2008 F150 Supercab 5.4 4x4 w/ 50k mileage) Always thought my truck ran "right" but until my truck threw a PO1903 code i replaced the FPDM with a Dorman Unit from Autozone. Anyway, my truck felt like it gained alil power just because how much hesistation was eliminated and how much throttle response i gained. Also, i would do a fuel filter and maybe clean the mass air flow with CNC Mass Air Flow Cleaner (only use this cuz other stuff could hurt your sensor) Hell, i would even clean the Throttle Body. I hope the coil pack you replaced didnt poop out on ya or hope a different coil pack didnt defect on you. FYI i bought my truck brand new and keep my truck in the garage and it is driven 95%highway keep my truck very clean, i dont let mud and gunk build up under the frame AND my FPDM was very corroded and damaged! There are a few videos on Youtube.com on how to replace the part, my FPDM had a dime sized hole in it and you could literally hear it rattle when you shook it. Sad day in a Ford man's life!!! I wish you the best man

What brand are the replacement plugs? Which engine do you have?

Thanks BigBlue. I keep my truck spotless as well but after 125K miles in MA I'm thinking it could very corroded. I think I'm going to check this part tomorrow. Seems like I can special order them from AutoZone, as you said. Yeah I really hope the coil pack didnt go on me or another one for that matter. Since now dash warning lights are going off would a test reveal any codes being thrown?

GLC, I had the plugs down by a dealer because I didnt want to deal with having one break off on me... and it's the 5.4 engine.

Really appreciate the help!

If you are getting a CEL, yes, you should read the codes.

Rock Auto has the Dorman FPDM for $56.79 plus shipping.

i wish i would have known about rock auto when i changed mine!! i guess autozone kinda broke it off in me! FYI for anyone who does buy their's from autozone is that, yeah its 100bux and you do get a lifetime warranty and MINE had em in stock due to the fact that this is a part that still flys off the shelfs of all part stores even after a few years!

You should still scan it for stored codes.

The Dorman from Rock Auto also has a lifetime warranty.

UGH!!! well there is definitely more going on with my truck. Seemed fine this morning until I got to my destination. Getting into reverse was an issue and things didnt sound good. Has a Transmission Malfunction warning come up and the O/D Off was blinking. Obviously not good. Had it towed to the local shop that I use and waiting to here. All I wanted was to have this truck last until Ford ran a 0% for 60 on the 2013's and I was making the switch, not this. Has ruined my day for sure. And to boot, AAA sent hook truck rather than a flatbed like i asked and my Roll up tonneau cover flew up and over the rook of my truck and smashed my sunroof.... Insult to injury for sure. At least I have full glass coverage with my insurance.
