I have a 06 F150 xlt 5.4 4x4 with problems!

It has motor issues and mechanic says it needs to be replaced. Is there anyway I could swap it with a older 5.0 or a 4.6? And if so what would the changeover consist of?

I suppose you could put just about anything you want in there if you want to bad enough. The 4.6 swap wouldn't be too hard. Not sure why you would do it though. The older 5.0 swap would be very difficult.

I'm very happy with my 5.4 and the other 5.4's I've has as well. Why not just fix the one you have or replace it? Assuming you even need a complete engine.

I've not driven a new 5.0 but everyone I know that has one had a 5.4 before and they do like the new 5.0 better. Better fuel mileage and lots more power they say.

Maybe I just got lucky because my 5.4 does fine on fuel for what it is. Of course with fuel at 3.00+ I could stand it to get better. I don't have any complaints about my 5.4 in the power department either but I never had an engine that had too much power My 2012 Powerstroke has just enough.

If you could put that Powerstroke in one of our F150's that would be as good as it gets for me.

Well I have had a lot of issues with the 5.4 and I used to have a 97 f150 with the 4.6 that never had any issues. Lack of power wouldn't be an issue for what I use it for, I did everything with the 4.6 that I do with the 5.4 without the issues, better gas mileage and the 4.6 would be cheaper and easier to come by.

I could buy a whole pre 2000 f150 wrecked with a good drivetrain for less than a grand, would be a lot more for the 5.4. Just wondering what the swap would consist of, or if I would be better off to let them repo the truck and just buy something else.

I don't think letting them repo the truck to be a good option :/
