I have a 2008 F150 5-4L. Its got 73K on it and am curious as to what things I need to "service" on it. Am worried about wheel bearing(s) front end and transmission. Tranny hasn't been serviced since I bought it but I am hearing a "whining" while it is in park. I read another post that someone thinks it may be the Torque Converter (?). Just need some advice as to what I need to have done to it. Thanks! Mike.

 

I'd do a tranny service and change the spark plugs. To troubleshoot the whining, remove the serp belt - start it up and run it for a minute, if the whine is gone it's one of the driven pulleys - possibly the alternator working hard to recharge a weak battery. Parts stores can load test the battery.

 

Yeah, I'd be looking at doing the plugs right now. Once the plugs are done, I'd do what GLC said and remove the belt to see if the whining noise stops. I'm still on the original tranny fluid and rear diff fluid @ 90K miles, but will be flushing both at the 100K mark. I wouldn't worry about the front wheel bearings, but if you need new front brakes, you should just replace the front rotors with the Centric conversion kit and it will come with new bearings anyway.

 

What's the engine code and date code on that bad boy? Should be on the drivers valve cover. If its a 'Happy number' then the spark plug change should be a breeeeze!

OEM oil filter and decent 5/20W Semi synthetic. I use fully sync and it keeps the engine nice and quite.

Not sure about the tranny whine sorry.
