Unhappy 4x4HI indicator light

My 2004 Fx4 Supercrew has a problem with the 4x4 hi indicator light. It is an automatic transmission. When put into 4X4 low, the low 4x4 light comes on and the low 4x4 operates properly. When put into 4X4 high, the 4x4 high light (4x4HI) does not come on but the truck does operate in 4x4 high. The four wheel drive operates in both high and low, but only the low light comes on. When the truck is started, both 4x4HI and 4X4low lights come on for a second to show its not a bulb problem. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

I would guess it has something to do with the solenoid that controls the vacuum on the firewall. If not it is where I would go to start checking. I don't remember the years involved now but I know there was a recall on some. The part is less than twenty dollars even if you end up paying for it.

check your wiring at the shift motor on the back of the transfer case make sure you don't have any corrosion in the connectors or rubbed wires. the vacuum solenoid on the fire wall controls the IWE's at the hubs not the 4X4 lights.
