Engine Low Growl at slow down...

Just lately, seems as though when I slow down after driving and get between 15-0 MPH I can hear my engine growling a bit. If I hit my brakes it seems to make the growl drop out and away - almost like it is not down shifting but I don't think that's it... Weird. Thoughts? I am taking it in in about a week for a Tranny Flush and complete check up.

I have noticed the same exact thing on my truck in the last month. I do have a bad CAT however that I am waiting to get replaced. The growling sound seemed to start around the same time my CAT went bad. I'll let you know if it goes away when my passenger side CAT is replaced. Hopefully it arrives from Ford within the next 2 weeks.

What other symptoms are you experiencing? Any other noises? Sluggishiness? Drag?

I'm just experiencing the noise. Maybe some drag. I mentioned it to the dealer last week. Today I am going to drop it off to get CAT the replaced; it finally arrived. They said that they would look into this noise that the truck makes at 0-15mph if the replacement of the catalytic converter does not clear it up. I will respond back on Friday when I get the truck back.

Apparently it wasn't the passenger side CAT. Got 1 mile down the road from the dealer and found that the truck still makes the rattle and the "growl." Turned around and went right back. Now I have to bring it back Tuesday. I am so disgusted with this truck. Owned it 2 months and it’s been in the shop almost every week. Took it to 3 different dealers and nobody can figure it out. I can't take it anymore.....When the problem is fixed (if it ever is) it is going to be sold. Only 31,000 on the odometer, what a joke!

Oh. One thing I noticed is that I used to get about 400 miles per tank of gas, now I am looking for a pump at 250 miles. That comes out to less than 10mpg. Something is seriously wrong with it. I think it has something to do with the cam phasers again.
