I have a 2004 150 with a 5.4. About a month ago sometime you would get in the truck and it wouldnt start after a few times of cranking or turning the key of and on it would start and run fine. Sometimes it would start and spit and sputter and then die. It finally died for good the other day.

I had it towed in and started looking it over. I checked the FPDM it was all to pieces so I replaced it with a aftermarket one from Autozone. The truck started once sputtered and never would restart. So next I put a new fuel filter on it still nothing, while I had the filter off I turned the key on no fuel from the tank. Made a few phone calls everybody said its the pump if you cant hear the pump thats what it is. Dropped the tank and pulled out the old pump. Just out of curiosity I hooked the pump directly to a battery and it runs fine. So now I am really pissed after fighting with the tank for over a hour. I take a test light and check the plug for the pump, now this is where it gets good. Sometimes it doesnt work sometimes it lights up for a second or two and other times it stays on.

So with that mouth full being said anybody have any ideas? I am about at my wits end on this one.

 

Sounds like you might want to go back and check the FPDM again, Make sure its the right one, and grounded properly!

 

We will give it a try. Should it be mounted solid with the studs provided or should it be mounted with the rubber stand offs?
