blinking cel light

Hello everyone. Today i was driving on the highway and when i tried to pass somebody my cel light started blinking. after doing research it turns out thats a misfire. The thing is, as soon as i slow back down the cel light turns off. There is no way for me to read what cylinder is misfiring. any advice? Plugs are 6000 miles old. I just ordered a new set of COPS which will hopefully help. any other recommendations though?

There should still be a code even if the light isn't on. It stores the codes from misfires.

If you check it with a scan tool you can get pending codes. A code reader will only pull codes that have been set, at least the cheaper ones like the parts stores use.

The other thing you can do is get it to misfire and hold it there until a code is set. On mine I played around and found the RPM range it would misfire and held it there about 3 or 4 times so it would register. I also applied the brake to put it under a heavier load, it poped up right up.

Good luck.

thanks for the quick reply guys. This kind of things always happen to me when i am about to leave town! i am going to try your suggestions and go from there. I really hope it is the COPS i get the misfire at about 3500-4000 rpm. Anything else i should check?
