Clogged fuel injector may be telling you to replace the fuel filter.

Strange/unidentifiable poor running symtoms are more and more often being traced to bad FPDMs.

Ok, creepy. We had the same story, though ours were 6 & 8 stuck open. Managed to limp to dealer. Hubby replaced all injectors, upstream o2 sensors, dealer did plugs and one cops, cleaned all fuel system. Drove 350 miles and MIL came on with p0430, cat below threshold, cleared it, drove more than 350 miles, hasnt come back up. Truck still bogs down at low end under load. Thinking about replacing cat, can one side be done only? On bank where we had the problem? Wandering if it is the cat since the light has not come back on. It seems the exhaust is putting a bit, like blowing smoke rings? We're at a loss, no more fords for this family.

The other question is if the cat will clear out itself, it's not totally clogged, or can it be cleaned? O2 sensor helped a bit.

Yes Lacey only the cat on the side with the bad injector should be damaged. The raw fuel the injector dumped into the cylinder makes its way to the cat and the hot temps ruins it pretty quickly. My check engine light came on and it was CLE codes on the same side as the bad injector. And no I've never heard of cleaning one personally... And in my condition it isn't just merely clogged but the internals are melted so only a replacement will work.

And I understand your frustration with Ford but I have to tell ya they all have problems. I know a guy that had a 2012 chevy and it was burning 4 quarts of oil in 2 weeks time and the dealer didn't want to fix it so he traded it for a Ford. Things happen with every make, just a matter of what you get a hold to...

Going to do the cat tomorrow, hope it works. We bought the truck used in 2010, and the dealer said nothing about the extended warranty on the injectors, this was the first time we heard about it. Would have replaced them then. I think it's terrible to not recommend replacing them, even after two failed in our case, simply to save the incredible expense of the consequences, second dealer we brought it to said they tested fine, then 5 went. Ford should have the customer service to inform owners, we're tracked down to replace for recalls, we could be injured stranded on the side of a busy highway with a blown engine. Shame on me once, won't happen again. It's a real shame, this truck was a champ and now it'll never be the same. Something that coud have cost us $300 in parts has us near $3000 and tons of aggravation that coud easily be prevented. We're penalized on the warranty since we take good care of it and the injectors failed 8000 miles out of warranty? Brings me to another point, use Stabil. Kept us going longer, damn ethanol.

Yeah Ford did us a great disservice using just an "extended warranty" rather than a full out recall. Ford will only cover the injectors if they go out, which is crap. My converter should be in this week (hopefully tomorrow) and put on. When I get the money I'm going to replace the other 7 injectors too so I don't run into this problem again! And thanks for the tip Lacey about Stabil. I've been using Lucas for a while and used to use it on my Cummin's diesel truck I used to have. Hope yall can finally get your truck right after changing the cat.

Couldn't find our cat in town, but don't really tank its the cat since no code and exhaust is putting out plenty of water vapor. We are set to drive out 3000 miles for Christmas so hope it's ok.

I forgot to mention we were at 128k when our failure happened thus we foot the bill. It seems more and more like the high gear was damaged. Runs great until fifth and until it heats up. Wish someone else could chime in here with a thought. Thanks for the prayers, we'll take em!

Does it do this under normal driving? Or just when hauling a load??

Sorry, just saw your reply. It ran great across the us, seems to groan a bit under load like going up a hill. We were in the blizzard in Iowa and did get the p0430 code again when we were idling. Cleared it again, and hasn't come back. I think we have a slightly fouled cat, it took over 1000 miles for the code to come up again, and since then it hasn't. We have had to get used to the clicking of the new injectors, but that seems normal. Fords cat is apparently $2700 for the left side so screw that! Any suggestions on the best aftermarket cat? I was happy with rock auto but they don't have a motorcraft cat.

Lacy, if your trip took you to So Cal, I know a shop that has very good prices for replacing the cats. He did all 4 on my kids Bronco about 2 1/2 years ago for $350 IIRC. Would be a bit more now I'm sure, but very fair prices. Heck the local Ford dealed brings him their trade ins that need cat work because he can do it cheaper than they can.
