Controller mount
Controller mount
Received my dc controller last week. The instructions say to mount it on a metal surface near the radiator. Only metal I have near the radiator is between the bumper and the radiator. I have mounted a controller on the battery box, but these instructions say on metal. I guess I could mount it there and run a ground wire to it. The box is sturdy enough. Where do you have yours?
Bump to bring it up again......anyone mount a fan controller other than on the battery box?
Anybody mount any place other than the battery side?
I did get a pm, but desire additional input.

mine is on the wiper fluid box as well. works great, plus near battery. Id recomend hooking up an inline fuse with at least 10 ga. wire. I bought mine at nape. its a 30 watt max, and works great. I think this is the one I got...its the biggest one they had.

Per suggestion, I emailed Brian Baskin about the mounting of the fk85. My email and his reply;
"I am attempting to mount the fk85 on a metal surface of my 2008 fi50 per install instructions. Metal surfaces big enough for the controller are hard to find."
Reply; "It's not critical on these, as long as the controller has some airflow, it will be fine, all of the heat comes off the lid, it doesn't have to conduct any heat."
I take it that his comment of the mounting surface of metal not being critical on mine being it is the latest generation of that part, his latest design. But, IMO it has to be sturdy especially because of the heavy guage wire that needs to be clamped down. Don't know about other designs, controllers. I have heard of a possible heat related failure to a dc controller.
So thank you all for your assistance!
Received my Dorman FPDM Tuesday night so it will be a busy couple days.

Here is where mine lived for a few years. It was powering a pair of 2010 fans. Held down with velcro tape..the 'flap' on the top just kept water and road crap from the controller. this was the earlier design controller...bulletproof, never had a problem with it.
Dixie......the dc controller comes with a fusible link that bolts to the positive battery cable and gets crimped to the main positive power line. 30 watt, 60 amp max in the napa part description. What's the difference? Watts vs. amps?

Almost bought the connectors that soldered and sealed with a heat gun. No crimp. Too much $$ for my taste.
Up north we have some added challenges that the guys/gals in the warmer climate don't have.
