Help finding a thread. HOWTO on replacing ball joints.
I am having trouble finding a thread here, hoping somebody might have better luck knowing the thread I am talking about. There is a thread here SOMEWHERE that details the process of replacing upper and lower ball joints on a 2004 - 2008 F150 4x4. I am pretty sure I understand the procedure, but I am looking for tips on the ball joint press itself, I am concerned about the size of cup and which ones I need for our trucks. I have all the parts in hand, and all the tools except the ball joint press itself, I was figuring on picking one up from Harbor Freight as this is only a once in a blue moon kind of thing for me... I just needed to double check that...

Can't help you on the Thread,But in addition to the basic press the adapter kit will make things much easier.http://www.harborfreight.com/14-piec...set-66958.html

Since its free, use Auto Zones press. Yea , I understand your dilemma just the same. The older press kits have what you need to remove the old, but often, they don't always have both pieces needed to press in the new joint. You might need to make do and find something laying around for the other side of the press to substitute. However, its been awhile now, AZ might have the newer kits for loan. I definitely wouldn't purchase anything for that job , - special tool wise anyway. Unless I think I may need it again within the next 5 years or so.

For what it's worth, I haven't been doing much of this sort of work for a LONG time now, however, I have plenty of miles on the Saturn, my BILs Malibu needs ball joints for sure, I have several other friends I swap tools with from time to time that I know don't have ball joint presses.
Sadly, Auto Zone here doesn't have a press to loan.
