Great thanksgiving so far I think my fuel pump took a poop
I just dropped my spare and holy chit its cracked in half. Shame on me but i neef the truck and am going to buy a new one at orileys. Hopefully thats all the crapped out when i install the new one ill let yoy know how it goes.
It will work guaranteed. At the dealer they coat the new one with motorcraft brush on corrosion resistant coating before installing. I dont know what you could buy off the shelf that is the same. Maybe that rust coating stuff because it looks the same. But thats what they do to prevent it from happening again. Its a terrible spot to mount something like that because if you have your spare in it collects slush from the road and salt if you live where it snows.
glad i found this thread. i looked at mine and its all corroded, i'm afraid to pull it off right now and create more issues. went ahead and ordered a new one from rock auto for 68 bucks with shipping. might as well replace it before it lets me down.
i would of ordered mine if i didnt need the truck but i got to pick up a new bed tuesday. when i got the truck i read about the fpdm and was fully planning on looking at it but i neglected it and this is where it got me. Thanks to everyone who contributed. My dorman replacement came with the rubber bushings. Install time 10 minutes. I got the truck coded every single code had to do with fuel. Obviously the cel was because of the failing fpdm. I hope other people read this and nip it in the bud before they get stranded.
I believe my bolts were long enough on mine to remove mine, install about 1/4" to 1/2" of SS washers and reinstall the FPDM. Good luck and glad you most likely found your issue!
got my replacement fpdm on friday and coated the aluminum housing with undercoating to protect it from the salt. also used the rubber spacers included to mount it. when i pulled the old one off the mounting ears broke off while unbolting it and found it had corroded a hole through the aluminum. glad i found this and got this fixed before it lets me down.
Checked my fpdm Friday and it was all powdery. Ordered a replacement on Amazon (Dorman) for $60 including shipping. Should get here Monday or Tuesday. I don't want to be in the same situation the op found himself!
