60 mph shudder

You guys don't know how many times ya'll have helped me the past few months, so I just want to say thanks first of all. I have a new issue, but a little back ground first.

A few months back, I changed the plugs at 197000 miles. Not a fun experience. I actually changed 7 of the 8. I left the back passenger side plug for last. Truck has run great since.

Just replaced the tires 2 months ago. Radiator flushed, to get rid of the overdrive shudder issue.

Now, this past Saturday, I tackled that last plug. Removed battery, CPU, and throttle body to have room to work. Did this in the morning so I could watch the A&M/Bama game that afternoon. Got everything put back together and took it for a short drive and ran great. Watched the game, drank too much and did not drive it till Sunday. Short drive not over 50 mph.

I was driving to work this morning and hit about 60mph and it starts to shudder. Speed up it goes away. Slow down it goes away. No CEL. Gauges are fine.

I have a feeling it could be a COP but not sure. Does the CPU have to relearn? ****EDIT**** Are the codes stored even if NO CEL comes on if it was a misfire and would the computer at AutoZone pick them up?

Any help will be appreciated.

I had to replace the COP's. My issue was when I was mainly going uphill and in overdrive. The truck would just fall on it's face. I used Visteon VIS60-1000 COPs.

Did you replace them all at one time? I stopped at autozone to see if they could pull a code on which COP it is but their computer wouldn't.

With that many miles and you haven't had to replace any COP'S yet. I would replace the entire set and be done with it, because if one is going out, the rest will follow. Look for 'UNEEK' or 'GLOBAL' on eBay. Try to get a set of 10 (for spares) for around $100.00 for the set. The better ones from Visteon (sp) seems to have disappeared. You want the DG-511 COP assuming this the 5.4 3v.

Thanks for the help. I think I will try finding the set of ten on EBay. I am just glad these are easier to change than the plugs.

Did you replace the cop boots and use dielectric grease when you changed the plugs?

Ok I need your help again. I just changed all the cops, boots, di-electric grease on all. I did this all yesterday. This morning I was making a breakfast run and the cel flashed when it was going into OD. Stopped and got breakfast. On the way home, stopped at autozone to see if it would pull a code. NO CODE. Did it clear the code when I turned it off to get breakfast?

No, if the CEL only flashed and didn't come on steady, it was indicating a temporary misfire, not severe enough to lock in a code. What you have to do is hold it at the point where it's misfiring and try to keep it misfiring till it makes up its mind and throws a code.
