Cruise Control Issues.

I have had an on going issue with my cruise control and finally figured I would ask for some help. It somewhat works and I can't figure out why. Last weekend I drove ~300 miles and it didn't work until the final 15 miles of the trip. On the return trip it started off working, but a little after 175 miles it kicked off for no reason. After that for the next 60 miles it would work, until I hit a bump in the road, then it would turn off. I would have to turn it back on and reset it for it to work. After that it just plain wouldn't work for the rest of the trip home.

Lat night it worked fine, over bumps and all. Sometimes when it doesn't work I will be able to turn it on and set it, but it will turn off right away (long enough for the light to turn on then off right away).

I can find no connecting cause on the times that it does and doesn't work so hopefully someone here can give me some where to start, it is a 2004.

My first thought is to check/adjust the brake pedal switch. If a bump is causing the switch to trigger, the system thinks you are stepping on the brake and it disengages the system.

Do you have center console shift or is it column mounted shift? If its center console shift then it's probably the black box located right on the side of your shifter, you have to take the cover off to get to it, a new one costs 250 $ but if you dove something into the override switch so it's overusing g it 24/7 then you will have no more problems with your cruise control, same problem happened to my 2004 and it worked like a charm

Sorry I'm kind of tired, There is an overide switch, it's white, and it's located on the side of the black box on the side of your center console shifter, if you shove something in there above the switch it will overide it ( the black box which is causing your cruise control problems) and your cruise will work 100%

I had the same issue until I changed my brake pedal switch. It's shorting out. All you have to do is get a replacement for about $40 and change it out. It'll solve all problems. The interlock bypass is a temporary fix and will not fix cruise control. It's there to bypass the switch so you can put the truck in gear.

Thanks for the advice all. The switch is the same switch that activates the brake light right? Seems like an easy enough fix.

Bad info.

My cruise was acting just like the OP's truck, and the brake shift interlock WAS the cause. If you search the web you can find them for less than $100.

Also check the 3rd brake light... if it's out I believe it doesn't work.
