2004 F-150 Replacing Timing Chains and Guides
2004 F-150 Replacing Timing Chains and Guides
I finally got tired of hearing my 2004 F-150 rattle on start up and knock all the time. On top of that I've been driving with one CPS unplugged. Bought the replacement kit and started tearing into it on Sunday and got the front cover off tonight. Wow! What a mess. Right side upper guide was in multiple pieces, bottom right guide with the white coating on it was almost wore off. Left side bottom guide was broken into and other was wore out and left chain was waaayyyy loose. I will post pictures later on.
Put the new chains and guides on and it's real tight now. A lot of loose pieces floating around and I am sure some in the oil pan so I am taking that off tomorrow night to clean it out and check the oil pump screen. When I took the valve covers off it was very dry looking on top, maybe have some sludge problems to so I will be flushing out what I can while it's apart. I will post pics later and post an update as progress continues

well it's back on the road. In better shape than it was before but still not right. It's going back to trying to go dead after stopping again. but no codes yet. It won't let me upload pics..do I have to have so many posts before doing so?
