Question Speedometer Problem?

Hey ya'll, I am a new member here and this is my first thread. I have a 2005 F150 King Ranch that has a speedometer issue. All the gauges work, except occasionally when I decelerate the speedo wont drop below 40 or 50 mph. After sitting for a while (vehicle off) it sometimes drops to 0. Problem is when driving and it stops at say 50mph, this becomes my start point. So, when my speedo says 100mph I am actually doing 50mph. I pulled the cluster and spun the needle by hand with no resistance. Put it back in and no problems for 1 day. Today...same problem. I dont know if its a speed sensor or the cluster going bad. I want to avoid the dealership if possible and fix it myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You may have no choice but to go to the dealer for a diagnosis. If it turns out to be the cluster try to find one in a bone yard..even then you will have to see the dealer to have the cluster 'married' to the truck's PCM.

Dealer is going to be your only option for this issue....

Thanks for the tip. Found a well respected mechanic who has seen this numerous times before. He said he pulls the cluster and sends it to a automotive electronics shop in Flint, MI that repairs the clusters for about $250. Gonna give it a try. Thanks again!
