Front end screech
Front end screech
Good morning ...
2004 XLT 4x4 5.4 new body style. 58000 brakes replaced along with rotors about 5000 miles ago.
Anyway it seems brake related. It does not do it all the time. Sometimes when turning it will trigger it. Most of the time it is triggered when sitting at a light, waiting for the light to turn and holding down the brake peddle, and I start to go afterwards. It will screech but if I put slight pressure on the brake peddle it goes away and then when I release it seems to be gone.
Any ideas before I tear it apart.
Thanks,
Dave

The first thing I'd check for is a caliper hanging up. Along that line, it could be the piston hanging up within the caliper or the caliper hanging up on the sliders. If it is the sliders, make sure you use the correct Disk Brake Slider Lube and not simple grease or worse yet, Never Sieze.
Since you say it sometimes occurs when turning I wouldn't overlook the ball joints. Had a lower ball joint go out on me on my car a few months back and it would SCREECH when turning SOMETIMES and screech when stopping (weight transfer) and when accelerating. Just one more thing to check in the chaos of possible causes...
Thank you for the suggesting the ball joints, I hadn't thought about those. I am taking it in to Meineke this afternoon for there free brake check. I will also have them check out the ball joints.
