i survived a plug change you can too.

Do not i repeat do not get ripped of by the dealership. To do my plugs and coil over plugs it cost me 200 dollars and a weekend. I got the plugs at advance auto using the buy online pick up in store i got the motor craft oem plugs for 70 dollars and change using the promo code visa. I got the lisle 65600 with a otc socket and 8oz nickel anti seize for 65 and change of amazon 30 dollars off since i signed up for their credit card. And coil over plugs for 80 off of ebay. I followed the tsb to the tee and 5 of the 8 plugs broke. 3,4,5,7and 8 broke on me 7 and 8 kept the copper stem while the others broke flush. If this happens get long needle nose pliers and pull them out before it gets lost in the head. If you have patients which i did not you can do them your self. Before you do the job order the lisle it is worth it. If you dont use it simply return it. I changed the plugs an no more bogging while given full throttle.

Did you let the motor get up to running temps before removing the plugs?

Nice job, I almost survived last year. I got all of them out except the front left side, it broke and the Lisle tool didn't work. Had to pay the dealer had to extract. I followed the TSB step by step and like I said almost worked.

Is this broken plug issue just a problem on the 5.4 or does it affect the 4.6 as well?

It affects 3 valve 4.6, 5.4, and 6.8 through mid-2008. The only F-150 that covers is the 5.4. The 4.6 was only in the Mustang and the 6.8 was only in the Super Duty.

the 4.6 3v's are also found in a variety of other Ford, Lincoln+mercury vehicles ....it wasn't just the mustang...

The tsb said to have the truck at room temp. Luv my dux i had a similar problem the pusher didnt push down far enough and the sleeve was holding it back from getting it deep down. I used the extractor w.o the sleeve to get it deeper and slid it over it after it grabbed.

I tried everything and spent 3hrs trying to get that one stuck broken plug out. I even had some guy named Mike from Lisle customer service, who helped design the tool, on the phone trying to give me assistance. I went as far as taking a wire shirt hanger and putting epoxy at the tip and placing it down to bond on the plug. The issue was the metal part of the plug was almost like it was welded onto the head, guess all that heat and carbon build up took its toll. The dealer had to take off the head to get it out. They gave me the plug and it was pretty orange/brownish color. I wasn't happy about the bill...
