Found a Nice 05 at the dealership need opinions
I've been looking for a newer truck since my 03 is over 144.000 miles its getting time.. I have found a 05 lariat with 65,000 miles at the local ford dealership in pretty nice condition except for a dented up rear bumper..

Does this seem like a decent price and what would yal offer for it?.. Im hoping to pay cash for the balance after trade.
Also i know these models have a problem with the cam phasers... If i start it up and after a long drive and the engine is still quite should i be fine. I dont want to buy it and a day or two later be able to hear them.
Thanks for the help

x2 thats a fair price and it appears to be in good condition. I would have the dealer change the plugs before you buy it so that you don't have to deal with them, and if the cam phasers are noisy you can always have them fix that.
Nah, no 4x4 it snows once a year maybe and never rains so dont need it, lol
Good idea on the plugs, hadnt thought of that. Im hoping i can get them to drop the price to maybe 12,900. Im headed up there tomorrow to see what i can do

Looks clean to me as well. Not a bad price for a 65K Lariat Crew cab. There is room for negotiations though. If you feel this might be the one, do yourself a favor and pull a Carfax on it before you go.
-Good advice on the plugs. Before you go to look at the truck ,call the dealer service dept and ask how much to do a plug change on an '05 5.4. Write that number down and you can bring that up as you negotiate. I'll bet it'll be $350-500 bucks. Ask them to change them or lower the price.
-Good advice on the Cam phasers. Drive the truck and make sure its completely warmed up. Then open the hood and listen for clattering on both sides on the front of the valve covers at idle. Minor subtle clicking is just injectors, don't be concerned. I really doubt the cam phasers will be clattering on a 65K truck. (But you never know) These trucks run fine with noisy cam phasers. But, I've heard of dealer prices of $1400-1800 to replace them.
-Tell the salesman you really like the truck but the rear bumper will need to be replaced or lower the price. It can cost you $600-750 to replace and paint that bumper.
IMO, you have plenty of negotiating power with just these three items.
Hope you get your price,
Good Luck!

If it were me I would talk dealer into changing all of the injectors...They are cheap at their cost, but can do some serious damage. I hav lost 2 and it took out the Cats both times. Cost $4000 for the two injector changes covered by warranty, but not sure when owned by second owner. Dont get me wrong I love my truck, but Ford will not change them all out at once. Make them do it for the deal....
$12000 would be more in the ballpark of what I would pay with the plugs changed. It is obviously a Lariat but the description reads XLT. May just be a typo but I always notice things like that.
