wobble / bounce in front end

Any ideas on what could cause this? 2007 xlt scab, just developed a bouncy type of wobble in the front end. You cant feel it in the steering wheel. Its like the whole truck wobbles a bit and you can feel it through the floor and passenger seat. I dont think its rotors since its all the time, just checked to make sure rear parking brakes werent seized. Thought it was inner/outter tire rods so i replaced the driver side parts and upper ball joint. Got an alignment after that. No luck there. I cant afford to start throwing a bunch of parts at it. Any suggestions besides getting rid of the truck!

Yep. Tires are brand new stock generals. Purchased the truck back in December with them on from the dealer. I didnt hit any pot holes or damage them that i know of. All city/highway miles for me.

If you have a jack and a jackstand, I would do one side at a time. Get it up in the air and check every nut and bolt, make sure its tight. Check the wheel for any play due to bad bearings. Also check for wheel weights, maybe it fell off. Unless it has warranty of some sort. Brains not functioning this late in the night I am sure others will help you out as well.

When I had my slight wobble/shake at higher speeds - I replaced both ball joints and tie rod ends and got the wheels rebalanced and its smooth sailing. The wheels being unbalanced were causing most of it tho.

I agree with everything that maplesyrup said. On top of that, it is possible that you've hit a small pot hole or something and don't remember it and have a slightly bent wheel. If a wheel is bent you can't always tell just by looking at it. Sometimes you can only see it once it's spinning on the balancing machine. The balance on the wheels is the most likely problem though it could be a number of different things. It is also possible that you have a bad tire (Out of round, separated, etc.). If it's a hub it will also (more than likely) be making a roaring noise. My dad owns a tire shop/mechanic shop that I've worked at for about 5 years and still do when I'm not away at school and the things listed between maplesyrup and myself are most typically the solutions to your problem.

Thanks for the advice guys. Checked everything for play so far up front, all seems tight as can be. I didn't have the wheels checked for balance. Strange thing happened though, the vibration seemed to come and go today. I took it for a spin down the highway and it started riding very smoothly. As I picked up more speed I could feel an intermittent thump coming from the drive shaft area that went with the speeds.

Now this kind of makes me want to forget everything about the front end and think maybe it's a drive shaft issue. When this just happened, steering wheel had no wobble, it was firm and straight as an arrow. This sort of tells me the front end is OK and the vibration is resonating up to the front end at lower speeds.

Thanks, I crawled under there a few days ago and tried to move the drive shaft around. I tried wiggling it in the front, middle and rear. I just used my hands and shook, I don't know if there is another way to test. It wouldn't budge at all.

I ordered some new front coilovers, complete with spring, strut etc. I am hoping that fixes this issue. I had a shop replace the drivers side upper control arm a few weeks back. They had to remove the whole strut assembly and put it back. It wasn't until a few days later this issued popped up and feels like a wobble up in that front drivers side area.

Dealer checked it out yesterday and said they can't replicate the issue and that everything looks fine. Once I get the new struts in I will post back to see if that fixes it. If it does, hopefully it can help anyone else having a similar issue. I hate trying to chase down an issue like this, sometimes it feels like it comes from one area, then another, then another. I think after I put the new struts in if that doesn't cure it I am going to drive it until I drive it into the ground.

Did you ever find out what caused this? Did the new struts fix the issue. This sounds exactly like my truck and it’s driving me nuts

It's likely the strut/spring assembly.

Check your springs, you might have a cracked spring.

From my prior experience, a bounce is typically related to worn struts though.

Thank you for the reply. I will post after I change the struts as I was suspecting them to be the issue.
