Showroom New Dye Kit - question

For those that have used this product:

http://www.showroomnewproducts.com/shop-car-dye-kits

Are you getting the black or gray? Someone posted that this was the best product to renew the wheel fenders, bedcaps, etc. Mine are gray now, and look like crap, but I'm not sure if they were black, or just a less faded gray? When I use tire shine on them they look great....for a day or two.

I can’t speak for this product as I’ve never used it or heard of it till now. When I bought my 06 new I can tell you the fender flares, bed rails etc. were a very dark charcoal if not black.

Mine did the same thing and eventually started becoming more and more grey.

But what I did was get some Krylon Fusion Satin Flat Black and spent a day taping, used some scotch brite and sprayed the fender flares and bedrails. Turned out very well and held up great.

Just something to consider that will probably last longer for you.

Thanks for the reply. Worst part of my truck is the faded fenders, bedcaps, and door handles. Did you do your door handles this way too? I've read someone say there's started peeling, so it scared me away. How long ago did you do this? Thanks.

My door handles never faded or peeled at all.
They were the black textured plastic.

I didn't paint the door handles or mirrors as I never had an issue with those.
But for the fender flares and bed caps I painted held up great. I sold the truck but I had done them a good year or more before then and they still looked great when I sold it.

The big thing is the prep make sure the surface is clean and dry before painting. Also the scotch brite gives a better surface for the paint to stick.

After that 2-3 light coats will cover them well and give a nice finish.

Oh I had also painted the wiper cowl at the same time as that turned very grey on mine.

Thanks, I did my fender's today before getting this reply. I did clean very well, used Scotch Brite pads, and prepped very good with tape and newspaper. I'm so glad I did it, turned out great. I did 6 coats each, probably overkill but oh well. I may do handles, but wiper cowls and bedcaps need it more. Those wiper cowls come off easy? I have to push them down on occasion because they seperate slightly, but I've never tried pulling them all the way out. Don't want to make them pop out easier.

Nice! Post some pics when your done.

Wiper cowl wasn't hard to get off. Pop out the plastic "rivets on the driver and passenger side, undo the clips and one bolt. You'll have to pull the wiper arms off too. While there off might as well scotch brite those and paint them as well. For the middle were it pops up what I did was drilled a small hole through the two and put a zip tie through them. It kept it in place and because it's on the front edge hidden by hood isn't seen from outside.

Good luck with the rest. Sounds like it's turning out good!
