Engine Noise Speed Related

2008 Ford F150 FX4 Supercrew 5.4 w/ 42K miles.

I have a speed related noise coming from the front of my engine. It is a high pitched whine and changes w/ the rpm of the engine. I think it is either the fan clutch or the tension pulley bearing. Does anyone have experience isolating the problem?

Thanks,
Jeff

Welcome.

Fan clutch - disconnect electrical clutch connector.

Tensioner - remove serpentine belt.

Could also be alternator pulley.

Replaced the fan clutch and the pulley to the right of the fan clutch, I'll call the idler pulley. The bearings on the idler puller were shot. Best price on the fan clutch was $150 on Amazon. The idler puller was $26 at Advance Auto.

Noise silenced. ;-)
