Help installing Detroit Truetrac

I just ordered a Detroit TrueTrac for my 2005 F150 with the 9.75 rear end. The stock LS clutch packs are shot and after doing much reading on this site I decided to go with the truetrac rather than replacing the packs. Has anybody installed this themselves? Do I need to order a bearing kit for the rear end? I always do my own work on my vehicles so I'm pretty confident I can tackle this, but I need some guidance as I've never tore into a diff before. I believe the only special tool I need is a dial indicator to measure backlash? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

yes, i would recommend getting a "master install kit" when you put in the new carrier.

you will also need a torque wrench

You shouldn't need new bearings for the carrier. Did this on mine about three years ago, basically, take a backlash reading before taking the old carrier out and put the original shims back in the same way they came out...you should be golden (take another backlash reading after of course). Remember the tru-track only uses mineral 80-90 gear oil. NO SYNTHETICS !! If you want to replace the carrier bearings you can..it just might cause headaches setting the original backlash. Also....do NOT touch the pinion gear or all the easy part goes out the window.
