Changing your fuel filter?

So here I sit, 6000ish miles from home, reaching the end of the internet on my one day off and I'm reading articles about these infamous clips that everyone keeps breaking when they change their fuel filters on the 04-08 F150's. I currently have an 06 F150 that I have not changed the filter on yet but on my prior truck a 06 Ranger I ran in to this issue, I spent an hour under it trying to figure out how to get the clips out without breaking it or screwing up the end of the line. At the end of my rope I laughed and went "Huh I haven't tried pushing in on it, wouldn't that be funny" I pushed in on the clip with a flat head and instantly got a face full of fuel (thank you safety glasses), sure as hell the fuel filter popped right out, repeated on the other side (ranger has a clip on both sides) and that end popped right out too. So unless the F150 is different I'm pretty sure those couplings are designed to be QD's instead of clips. Could someone poke their head under their truck and confirm or deny, I would but my location is flooded with MRAPs and Toyota Hilux's, not a ford to be seen Cheers guys and thanks for keeping me entertained over here, it makes the days go quicker!

And .. some more, for yer entertainment

Some whacko at Ford decided it would be a good idea to use random, different filter retention methods across different, or even the same, model years.

I happen to have the blue clip - so for me, I pop the tab out gently, use the disconnect tool and off it comes.

What he said.
I've never had a problem with those clips. They are easy to remove (With the right tools)

For around $5-6 bucks you can purchase these Fuel line disconnect tools from most any autoparts store. It will remove just about any size of clip or line. With this tool/kit you can remove fuel lines, clips, A/C lines, ect, ect, ect.

Everybody should have one in their toolbox.

Sound like a salesman don't I. LOL

Haha it figures that they would change it up for no apparent reason, hell when I figured it out on the Ranger I was shocked, I couldn't believe they actually made something that made sense......can't wait until I get home and dive in to this...what should be a 5 minute job, thanks for the resources guys.

It'll be easy.
You'll figure it out.

Good Luck, and wear safety goggles for falling fuel. LOL

couldn't you just cut the clip portion of the rubber hoses off, and use regular hose clamps?

These are hard metal high pressure lines. Cutting would be a baaaad idea! A trip to Advance Autoparts and $6 would be smarter.
