My Floor Shifter Mod

Got tired of the chrome peeling boredom of my shifter. When i was playing golf a few weeks back I had an idea.

First I took all the chrome of the cap with a knife and sanding it smooth. Then I traced a ball marker that measures 1 inch in the center of the cap. This is a pretty standard size marker and available at most golf stores.

I then took the plastic out wit my rotary tool, checking for fit and flush as i removed material. The center of the cap will be removed leaving a ledge to rest the ball marker on. (this is after paint)

On the shifter I drilled a hole the size of the neodymium magnets i bought. These were expensive $15 for 10 of them but they are the perfect size. What I didnt know until I drilled the hole was the spring assembly would shoot out. This really works out nice, as the magnet holds the spring in and actually firms up the shifter button a touch.

Place the cap back on and you can change ball markers for the sports season or your mood.

Im going to order a new cap and try to drill it out with a unibit. The marker actually rests on the tower/magnet and doesnt need the ledge. If I can tape the chrome and make a clean cut it could turn out perfect. If not Im out the price of a new cap.
