Swapping in a manual transfer case

Has anyone swapped in a manual transfer case in place of the shift on the fly transder case? Im old fashion (all my trucks have manual hubs n manual t-cases) and just like em better...plus seeing an 06 F150 FX4 with a manual shift t-case would just be cool. I know Ford had em in the XLs and some XLTs so in therory it shouldnt be overly complicated.

Or, if anyone has a manual t-case truck and can get pics of it and where it passes through the floor and inside shot would be appreciated.

FYI, even the floor shifter (I have that) is electrically engaging 4HI, via the shift motor on the transmission case. I don't believe any manual hubs exist for this generation F-150.

The hubs aren't manual, but the t-case is. I thought all FX4s had a flowthrough console though? That wouldn't work if that's the case

so what is the problem with the shift on the fly system???

You probably won't find anyone that can provide input because no one has made this ridiculous mod.

It sounds to me like a big waste of money in multiple ways. You will waste money and time installing it. And it will destroy your resale value.

but thats just my opinion.... its your truck...

Sounds neat in theory but not really practical to switch. Just with the auto transmissions I think the shift on the fly is just as trustworthy in the newer trucks as the manual on the floor. My truck is a 5 speed and a shifter on the floor but it wouldn't bother me to have shift on the fly or an auto transmission. Not worth it to change.

...they are both "shift on the fly", whether they have a floor shifter or dash switch. The floor shifter only manually engages 4LO, while the truck is stopped. You can't escape the electric shift motor.

One neat mod I'd like to see is 2 wheel drive low.

Seen a mod for that somewhere on here (2wd-lo).

Well if its still got an electric motor maybe ill just use a spare manual t-case shifter/boot/base and put it in there for the look (joking!).

Thanks.

I have a 2005 F150, 5.4L and just pulled my transmission to rebuild it. Here is a picture (albeit blurry) that I took from underneath my vehicle looking up at the shift lever hole. If this is what you are needing, let me know and I'll take more (not blurry) pictures and post them for you.

Manual transfer case shift lever hole in floor of F150.

I've popped out of 4 wheel high. I have a 04 Stx 4x4. There is no motor or electrical component. You can feel in mechanically engage. Maybe I'm crazy. You don't want a mechanical floor shift. You have to stop and put it in park. Sometimes I have to put it in reverse to engage. I agree it's a silly mod. Now I wish there was a way to mod that crazy IWE system....

And don't all fx4 have a center console. You would need a whole dash and bench seat...
