2005 lariat 4x4 not engaging
Not long ago I was pulling my pontoon out of the water and 4x4 wound not engage. Transfer case engaged but front tires did not. Any ideas?
Also, I need to have rear rotors turned. How difficult it is to remove them?

get yourself a vacum pump from autozone...cost about 20 bucks or so...i was having problems with my 4 wheel drive not engaging on my 05fx4...with the help of my autozone vacum pump...i narrowed it down to a bad IWE...not to hard to change....if you go slow...its a 3 beer job...

Another thing to try before replacing parts; try tapping on the shift motor with a hammer handle etc., (it's on the transmission, top-front), an electric 4x4 engagement motor on ALL 4WD F-150s in our group. The shift motor sticks if not used often (it's similar to a starter solenoid sticking).

Like somebody else said, get a vacuum pump and test your IWEs. Check this thread out: https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...then-some.html

2stroked-I stand corrected.
OP- You might want to check that vacuum operation of the IWEs before spending a bunch of money. They normally are in the "engaged" position unless vacuum pressure is applied to dis-engaged them. One of mine failed in the engaged position (broken internal spring). Read through the thread 2stroked posted...
If it is the IWEs you can save a lot in labor replacing them yourself.
