Not sure where you read that. Mobile 1 is more than adequate for your engine.

You can use search google and they pop up many links..

I read and said Most major oil companies such as Pennzoil, Castrol, Mobil 1 are not fully synthetic. Most are hydrocracked oils that perform similar to FULLY synthetic oils. Truly synthetic oils ( Group VI and V) are Amsoil Signature Series and Redline oils.

What you're talking about is a difference in the definition of what a "synthetic" is. It's kind of like cell phones and 3G+ or 4G where different cell carriers define it slightly differently to suit their purpose. At the level you're speaking of (hydrocracked, etc), it's really miniscule differences that likely make little to no difference in the oil to anyone but possibly endurance race teams with ultra-high tolerance engines. Mobile 1 is the factory OE oil for Corvettes, Porches, Mercedes, Nissan GT-R, etc. If it works for them, it will be more than sufficient for anything your truck will need.

I thought Mobil 1 was a group IV.

I believe standard Mobil 1 is a group 3, Mobil 1 EP is a group 4. I use EP.
