Best spark plug?

Soon to be doing a plug change on my '07 5.4 and wondered what's the best plug to go with?

Motorcraft SP515.

Or, Champion 7989 for a one-piece.

Get new boots! Get a Lisle 65600! Read the TSB and the many plug removal threads first.

Good luck!

What about for the 2v 4.6? Is SP-493 the correct/best plug?

Correct perhaps ( MC SP493 - single plat), but the best is Denso Iridium IT-16.

I wrote a how to in the technical articles section. It might help simplify the process for you. I would go with the sp- 515.

MGD,

Are the Iridiums worth the extra money? They are supposed to be lifetime plugs, aren't they?

And for the other two responses,

Are the SP-515s worth the spark on my lil 2v 4.6? I know they recommended them for the 5.4, but they are two piece and I'm a little leery of that, even though I know my engine doesn't have the plug issues the 5.4 suffered....

4.6 is completely different than 5.4 plugs.

Hey bud - as was pointed out, you don't have the issues the 3V's have - nor do you use the same plug.

You'll be just fine with the single-plat SP-493 Motorcraft. The iridium plug is pricey and you'll likely never know the difference in a stock truck. I was just answering yer question, lol. Save yer coin.

Remember - 28 ft-lbs , dry. Use dielectric properly in the boots.

Good luck!

Thanks MGD, and Lifted. I'll save the money I would've used on those iridium plugs and put it towards a Magnaflow muffler or something lol

Brandon,

Sorry to have jacked your thread, and glad to hear you found the plugs.

Ah no- I just went to Oreily and they gave me Motorcraft SP-415 for my 04 5.4L (non-heritage). But what y'all are saying is I need SP-515? Man, this is annoying because I gave them all my info including VIN per their request. Oh well. C'est la vie.
