Check the FPDM for corrosion. Get the maintenance history.

Well we had a look at it and looks ok, but we did get it started by holding the peddle to the floor untill it finally fired and it took 3 or 4 times of this before it stayed running. No codes were thrown either.

That's a symptom of leaky fuel injectors.

Could be the fuel pump as well. My wife expo did the same thing ended up being the check value was bad , it would let the fuel drain back to tank and not keep the fuel line pressurized . Letting it crank for a few allowed the fuel to get to the engine.

But holding the peddle to the floor cuts the injectors off so it sounds like it is getting flooded by leaky injectors.

Check the crankshaft position sensor harness connector...the CPS very, very rarely goes out, but the harness connector is known for issues...wiggle it, it may start...if it does, Ford has a repair kit for the harness connector.
