New truck

Hello all, I am straying away from the 97-03 section today because my mother should be signing papers on an 04 lariat 4x4 with just over 100k on the clock by the end of the day. I told her to make sure the plugs were either already changed, or to make that part of the deal because I have read about the problems with the two piece plugs used in these engines.

Anywho..... What i am here for is some guidance... I am not very familiar with this particular vintage of trucks and I am curious as to things I should be expecting to have to take care of over the course of the summer. Any common issues or just house keeping type things I should plan to do other than or even including the 100k maintenance. Also, are there any recomended mods which should be done or updated parts I should look into replacing (I already know about that box over the spare tire that runs the fuel pump), or should it be good to go as is?

Thanks for reading as well as for any help/ ideas

Pics to come this weekend!

Look up the Gotts Mod on here. It's easy to do and only costs about $10 and makes a noticeable difference with throttle response. Also, you may have the cam phaser problem. Lots of info on here about that too. If the shocks are stock, they will be worn out. You already know about the spark plugs. I'm going to try changing mine on my 06 next week, wish me luck. That's all that comes to mind right now

Good luck with the plugs, hopefully they don't give you to much trouble.

I am familiar with the gotts mod.... Have it on my 97. However I have heard that with the newer trucks, you actually need a new tuner for your computer, not the ten minute reset as with the 97-03's. Is there any truth to this?

Good point about the shocks... i will look into it when i get home Friday for spring break. From what i have seen/ heard it is a pretty solid truck, but i can imagine it needs a few odds and ends maintenance wise. and i will make sure to read up about the cam phaser so i know what to look out for.

My spring break is next week too. I'm going to do some maintenance too, brake pads and spark plugs and brake pads on my dad's truck. I have the gotts mod on my 2006, and it didn't cause any computer related problems. I have a custom tuned Gryphon CS now, but for almost a year I didn't and it was fine

There should be no problem doing the Gott's mod on an '04-'08 truck without a custom tune -- it's only when you start getting into the full-blown aftermarket CAI's that you have to be careful....

Only trucks that run lean with the GM is the 3v 5.4s. No issues with the 2v 4.6. Enjoy your new ride, and of course...PICS are in order when you get time lol

Nothing runs lean with a Gotts mod - not even the 3v. The MAF is untouched and in the stock location. It's the CAI's that run lean because of the MAF.
